Need for Doctors & Healthcare Professionals: A Public Health Problem
Our world needs more healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, and allied health) and Public Health Development International wants to make a significant difference in addressing this problem by encouraging and exciting students to pursue careers in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary medicine and other health care areas.
High School Students & College Freshman
PHD International's National PREMED 101: Medical & Healthcare University Program for High School and College Students is designed for students who wish to gain an advantage for medical and health-related pre-professional programs.
Introduction to Pre-Medical/Health Care
The PREMED 101 National program provides students with a hands-on experience in pre-professional and professional healthcare education that expands the opportunities available for students interested in entering pre-professional collegiate undergraduate programs.
- Premed 101 Introductory Workshop which gives students an advantage by exposing them to the requirements of health professional studies, study techniques to improve performance in the sciences and math, and gain hands-on experience about medicine through enjoyable learning activities
Premed 101 Programs
- Science Studies Skill Development and Applied Science Seminar offers students a unique opportunity to gain valuable science skills that are essential to success in biology, chemistry, and physics in high school, college, and professional school (medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, nursing, etc.)
- Premedical Apprentice Program Premed Junior Interns allows student to learn essential medical concepts and work alongside
medical/dental/podiatry/nursing and other health professions students, in areas of similar interest. Students learn how to take a patient history, read vital signs, interpret laboratory tests and X-rays, and conduct a physical examination.
After learning these skills students participate in 2 mock clinics where they examine and diagnose patients with hypothetical conditions, diseases, and illnesses. Students also participate in an actual hospital visit (or clinical rotation training) where they visit acute care, emergency medicine, critical care and intensive care medicine, pediatrics and adolescent medicine, geriatrics, and oncology. Learn advanced concepts of patient care including listening to the patient, medical empathy, and hospital-based infections and present a clinical paper in Capstone Assessment session at the end of the hospital and clinic rotation. This is a great opportunity for health or science extra credit.
